Trump Cuts Arts Funding, Targets Smithsonian Museums

The White House has cancelled millions of dollars in federal humanities grants to arts and culture groups, following Trump's budget blueprint that proposes eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Trump has restricted funding to Smithsonian museums through executive orders and attempted to fire the director of the National Portrait Gallery. The Kennedy Center, a performing arts venue supported by government money and private donations, was criticized by Trump as "out of control" with "rampant political propaganda", including a "Marxist anti-police performance" and "lesbian-only Shakespeare".
