Trina Gregory's Rainbow Parking Space Protest

Orlando restaurateur Trina Gregory turned over 49 parking spots outside her eatery for artists to color as a protest against Florida's state mandate removing rainbow-colored crosswalks. The event, "Parking Space for Pride — A Rainbow Connection," received 1,000 applications after Gregory put out word that the parking spaces would be open for coloring. The parking spots are on private property and not under government control, in response to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis' enforcement of a state code prohibiting "surface art" on crosswalks and other areas. Critics say the restriction is an attack on the LGBTQ+ community, while Gregory believes art has always been a form of resistance and healing.
