Hellfest Breaks Down Metal Barriers for Women Musicians

Women are challenging traditional gender stereotypes at the French heavy metal festival Hellfest, where men have historically dominated the genre. Nine bands featuring female artists performed on one of the main stages, a notable step towards recognizing women in the scene. Camille Contreras, a self-taught metalcore vocalist, faced backlash after joining French band Novelists but proved her vocal strength and stage presence, helping the band gain international traction. US rock giant Linkin Park returned to the festival with new vocalist Emily Armstrong, who joined following the death of frontman Chester Bennington. The festival's organizers say this is a "very good start" to make women more visible in the genre, which remains "standardised and very masculine".

Kennedy Center Boycotted Over Trump Ties and LGBTQ Policies

The Kennedy Center is facing a boycott due to its association with former US President Donald Trump, who has been critical of artists and performers who disagree with his views on issues unrelated to the arts. In response, some performers have boycotted attending events at the center where Trump would be present, while others have publicly disapproved of him when introduced. The situation escalated when Democratic senators planned a Pride concert at the Kennedy Center as a protest against Trump's anti-LGBTQ policies.
