AI Threats Escalate in Indian Cyberspace

Published on 6.13.25

The increasing sophistication of artificial intelligence (AI) has led to a surge in AI-driven cyberattacks, posing significant threats to organisations in India. According to a report by Fortinet and IDC, nearly 72% of Indian companies have been targeted by AI-powered cyberattacks in the past year, underscoring the need for advanced malware protection with zero-hour defense capabilities. One such threat is the "verification fatigue" phishing attack, which exploits users' trust in legitimate-looking URLs, CAPTCHA formats, and padlock icons to launch malware. This type of attack leverages Windows utilities and embeds scripts and obfuscated code that can evade traditional detection tools like antivirus software or endpoint protection. OpenAI has disrupted at least 10 malicious AI campaigns this year, highlighting the growing threat posed by AI-driven cyberattacks in India. Freelance journalist Efosa Udinmwen notes that these attacks are becoming increasingly difficult to detect due to their ability to exploit vulnerabilities in human behaviour and misconfigured systems. The rise of AI-generated phishing scams further complicates the situation, making it essential for organisations in India to invest in advanced security measures to protect themselves against these emerging threats.
