EU Criticizes Israeli Humanitarian Crisis Response

Published on 5.24.25

The European Union has taken a strong stance against Israel's military actions in Gaza, criticizing its response to the humanitarian crisis. Several member states have condemned the violence and called for an end to the crisis. EU diplomat Kaja Kallas stated that most member states support reviewing trade cooperation agreements with Israel due to concerns over human rights abuses. This move threatens to undermine key economic ties between the two parties. The EU aims to unblock humanitarian aid and determine if Israel has violated its human rights obligations under the EU-Israel Association Agreement. The situation in Gaza remains dire, with critical shortages of food and medicine due to an eased aid blockade. Rescuers have reported at least 19 people killed overnight, including a week-old baby. The Palestinian foreign ministry accused Israel of deliberately targeting a foreign diplomatic delegation with live fire, further escalating tensions between the two sides. Sweden and Britain have been at the forefront of this effort, with Sweden pushing for EU sanctions on Israeli ministers and Britain suspending free-trade negotiations.
