Global AI Market Surpasses Germany's Economy Size, Expected to Reach $4.8 Trillion by 2033

Published on 4.6.25

The rapid growth of the global AI market is expected to reach $4.8 trillion by 2033, comparable to Germany's economy, according to a UN report. This surge in AI adoption has significant implications for economies worldwide. In India, the talent pool in AI is substantial, with approximately 4.5 lakh Indian professionals working overseas and Indians making up 15% of the global AI workforce. However, this trend also poses challenges for countries like India, which needs to develop its own AI chips, set up an AI infrastructure fund, provide research grants and tax breaks, prevent talent migration, give access to data, and increase financial investment in AI research. UNCTAD chief Rebeca Grynspan emphasizes the need for stronger international cooperation to prioritize people over technology in AI development. To mitigate this, UNCTAD advocates for investing in digital infrastructure, building capabilities, and strengthening AI governance to harness its potential for sustainable development.
