Indonesia's government has launched a nationwide initiative to enhance digital skills among its population, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. The Smart Indonesia STEM movement is backed by over Rp500 billion in funding and supported by more than 500 educational institutions, aiming to equip 10 million students with AI and STEM skills.
The initiative highlights Indonesia's proactive stance on AI development, with the integration of AI technologies into public services, agriculture, education, and financial inclusion. A task force is being established to develop digital talent capacity and create a roadmap for AI development. Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti views this as part of the country's broader strategy to drive economic growth and develop capable citizens.
The government aims to adopt global best practices to achieve better results through digital transformation, which is already underway in the country. With its large young population and high technology adoption rates, Indonesia sees an advantage in expanding its digital talent base.
