Middle East Conflict Enters Diplomatic Stalemate as Hamas-Israel Truce Talks Stall with Russia, China, Turkey, and UN Security Council Involved

Published on 4.25.25

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has brought international relations into sharp focus, with various countries taking sides on the proposed truce between Hamas and Israel. A key aspect of this is the role of guarantors for a potential agreement, with Russia, China, Turkey, or the UN Security Council being considered as possible options. Hamas's proposal includes a committee of independent technocrats governing Gaza, which has been accepted by the group. However, Israel has ruled out any arrangement that would allow Hamas to maintain its influence in the region and rearm. The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with over 51,000 Palestinians killed, mostly women and children, according to the Health Ministry. The United Nations Humanitarian Office (OCHA) has urged world leaders to pressure Israel to allow humanitarian aid into the region, which has been sealed off since March, leaving 2 million Palestinians without access to food and other essentials. The foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Britain have issued a joint appeal to Israel, urging it to respect international law and allow unhindered access for humanitarian aid.
