Nvidia Faces Intense Competition from Huawei's 910C Chips and VSORA's Jotunn8 Processor

Published on 5.10.25

Nvidia is seeking to balance its business interests in China with the need to protect sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands. The company plans to use 5nm production at TSMC to bring its H100 chip to market by mid-2025, targeting areas where its GPUs are less competitive. This move could potentially rival Huawei's 910C chips, which continue to be shipped in volume to Chinese data centers and research labs despite US sanctions. VSORA, a Paris-based startup, has raised $46 million to develop Jotunn8, a custom-built inference processor that aims to challenge Nvidia's dominance in the training-focused chip market. Huawei is now testing its 910D chip, which may signal a shift towards building a self-sufficient AI hardware ecosystem. The increasing competition in the AI chip market highlights the need for companies like Nvidia and Huawei to adapt and innovate in order to remain competitive.
