The recent efforts by Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari to revitalize the theatre industry in Punjab are a step towards preserving Pakistani stage dramas' unique identity with high standards and moral values. The minister's emphasis on promoting family entertainment points is reflected in her plans to launch a new family theatre at Alhamra Lahore, which will provide quality recreation for people. Bokhari has been conducting surprise visits to theatres across the district to ensure compliance with regulations, collaborating with deputy commissioners and district administration to monitor the situation. Her efforts have led to show-cause notices being issued to several performers for violating set standards of operation (SOPs). The minister's commitment to preserving Punjabi culture is also evident in her plans to promote and preserve it through music, dance, and cultural performances held across the province. The grand event at Alhamra on April 17 will celebrate Punjabi Culture Day, where Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will deliver a special address. Bokhari has expressed strong dissatisfaction with poor cleanliness and administrative mismanagement in some theatres, warning that any performer violating SOPs would face a lifetime ban. She has also emphasized the importance of resolving concerns and restoring dignity to theatre, receiving positive feedback from participants.
