Russia-Ukraine Conflict Enters Critical Stalemate

Published on 4.28.25

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has reached a critical juncture as peace talks have been postponed due to recent air strikes in Ukraine's southeastern city of Marganets, which killed nine people. The proposal for a peace deal involves both sides ceding some territory they currently own, a demand made by Moscow that has been met with resistance from Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilian targets. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal of bilateral talks is pending "legal clearance" from Ukraine, a condition that has yet to be met. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US officials are set to meet in London to push for an unconditional ceasefire. Ukrainian authorities report strikes in several regions, with one person injured by shelling in Russia's Belgorod region.
