A.R. Rahman is set to bring his musical adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" to Singapore, making its Asia premiere at the Sands Theatre in Marina Bay Sands from August 12 to 31. The musical will feature a unique blend of instruments, including the nyckelharpa and brass, and vocals by Bosnian singer Alma Ferovic. Rahman collaborated with director Matthew Warchus on the production, which he describes as "very dark" but ultimately successful. The composer has fond memories of Singapore, where he first traveled in 1986 to search for instruments, and is now excited to return with his new musical. Rahman's collaboration with Hans Zimmer on the upcoming Bollywood film Ramayana marks a full circle moment for the two composers, who had previously discussed working together 15 years ago.
