Clare Leighton Paints Gandhi at London Conference

  Clare Leighton, a British-American artist, created an oil painting of Mahatma Gandhi in 1931 while he was attending the Second Round Table Conference in London. The portrait was on display at the Albany Galleries on Sackville Street in London in November 1931. Gandhi's personal secretary, Mahadev Desai, praised Leighton's likeness and expressed his gratitude for her visits to his office, where she spent several mornings painting him.
