The Dalai Lama celebrated his 90th birthday with a Tibetan cultural performance, attended by long-time supporters including Western diplomats, Indian federal ministers, and Hollywood star Richard Gere. The event was marked by messages of solidarity from Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te, three former US presidents (Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton), and Indian Parliamentary Minister Kiren Rijiju, who backed the Dalai Lama's position on his successor. Cultural performances were held throughout the morning, including from Bollywood playback singers, while messages from global leaders were read out. The event was seen as a sign of support for the Dalai Lama, who has stated that he will reincarnate as the leader of the faith upon his death and that his non-profit institution, the Gaden Phodrang Trust, has the sole authority to recognise his successor.
