Grand Egyptian Museum Opens in Giza This Year

Published on 7.7.25

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza, Egypt, is set to open in the final months of the year after years of delays due to regional security concerns. The $1 billion project will be the world's largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization, featuring over 100,000 artefacts, including King Tutankhamun's collection of more than 5,000 objects. Conservation efforts have been led by Egyptian and Japanese experts, who have painstakingly restored treasures such as golden funeral masks, gilded coffins, and ceremonial chariots using cutting-edge techniques like magnifying lenses and archival photos. The restoration process has been a joint effort between Egypt and Japan, with the goal of preserving the artefacts' history while respecting their original state.
