A US judge has ruled that Tesla's use of a Blade Runner 2049 image in its marketing materials is not protected under fair use. The judge, who did not specify their name, shaved the image of a character from the movie, which is owned by Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros., to use as a background in Tesla's promotional materials. The judge found that the image was not transformative and did not serve a purpose other than to make Tesla's products look cool. The ruling is in line with a 2019 decision by the US District Court for the Central District of California, which also found that Tesla's use of a Blade Runner 2049 image was not protected under fair use.
