Malaysia Unveils Home-Grown AI Model ILMU

  Malaysia has launched its home-grown multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) model, 'ILMU', a large language model trained on local data and culture. Developed by YTL AI Labs in partnership with Universiti Malaya, ILMU is designed to understand the country's context and daily realities. The name ILMU stands for Intelek Luhur Malaysia Untukmu, reflecting its core values of context-aware intelligence, ethical foundations, cultural fluency, and serving all Malaysians. ILMU has achieved high scores in language understanding tests, including Bahasa Melayu, and will be available for early access on Malaysia Day, September 16, 2025.
