Uruguay is gaining recognition as a hub for international contemporary art with the upcoming opening of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Atchugarry in Punta del Este, set to open next January. Sculptor Pablo Atchugarry is behind the project, which aims to be Uruguay's most comprehensive museum. The move follows Italian collector Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo dropping plans for a new space in Madrid due to structural issues with the Matadero's Nave 9 building.
