Taskers Sue Over Trauma from AI Content Moderation
Published on 8.8.25
A group of independent AI input contractors, known as "taskers," have filed a complaint alleging psychological injury from working with generative AI services that required them to process and monitor disturbing content, including suicidal ideation and child sexual assault. The plaintiffs claim they developed PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues due to the traumatic nature of their work, which included hours-long conversations with the AI on sensitive topics without sufficient warning or support. They are suing the operators of these services for negligence and violating California's Unfair Competition Law.
