World Museum Considers Separate Space for Human Remains

Published on 7.2.25

The World Museum in Amsterdam is considering displaying human remains in a separate, respectful space to address the ethical concerns surrounding their display. This idea was suggested by Senay Boztas, director of content at the museum. In contrast, an Australian museum has removed mummified human remains from display, with only fully covered Ancient Egyptian mummified remains allowed on show. The American Museum of Natural History has repatriated over 100 Native American human remains and 90 objects following revised federal rules that came into effect earlier this year.
